Track of the Day: Fallen Letters – Remain A Memory (2023)

Discovering artists with extensive back catalogues and accolades to their name is fun, but finding a band unknown to the world with only one single beneath their belt is an utter delight. Saying that I am over the moon to introduce Fallen Letters. Hailing from Bangalore, India, Vishal Naidu (vocals, guitar, bass and keys) and Aditya Ramesh (guitar, bass and backing vocals) come together in a fusion of hard rock and metal. Blending their perspectives and understanding of music, the pair compose melodies filled with passion, power and panache.

Influenced by artists like Tool, Katatonia and Deftones, Fallen Letters bring a strong nostalgic rock tone to the music; however, just as there is a vintage flavour, their debut song ‘Remain A Memory’ is tinged with modern-day hard rock and metal. Recorded and produced at a home studio by Naidu, with mixing by Mike Langford and mastering by Peter Letros, ‘Remain A Memory’ has a sophisticated arrangement with a slathering of gritty rawness atop.

As I mentioned, Fallen Letters is influenced by Katatonia and Deftones; however, for me at least, the lads drag me back to those long hours listening to Creed, Three Days Grace and Seether. Rhythmic guitars flow with steady drums lulling you into a false sense of security soothingly setting you adrift a glistening sonic river. You see the tumultuous waves beneath, but Naidu’s vocals set your heart at ease – then it all goes awry.

Scorching guitars slice through with searing metal-inspired vocals lifting breaking the serene glassiness of the river allowing those waves to engulf you. The ebb and flow of sound simultaneously pull your heartstrings in a smooth manner before pushing you away with a gut-wrenching drop of the stomach. Interestingly, the melody can have you in a sonic tug of war but the tune oozes vulnerability, fragility and the safer, more depressive side of humanity.

In addition to the single, Fallen Letters released an official music video for ‘Remain A Memory’. You can view the video below or on their YouTube channel.
