Track of the Day: Fallen Letters – For A While (2024)
With only a few singles beneath their belt, Fallen Letters might be considered a newbie in the world of music. Yet, despite only hitting our streaming in November 2023 with ‘Remain A Memory’, the India-based duo showcases sophistication and musical mastery in their melodies. Drawing inspiration from acts like Katatonia and Opeth, you can expect a strong, hard, heavy sound from Fallen Letters – and they do not disappoint. Brash, bold and oozing confidence, each single from the pair hits you between the eyes with a hard rock slap. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘For A While’.
Combining the talents of Vishal Naidu (vocals, guitar, bass and keys) and Aditya Ramesh (guitar, bass and backing vocals), ‘For A While’ follows the well-received sophomore single ‘Relapse’. As with their previous material, ‘For A While’ captures the gruffness of hard rock tinged by hints of metal in the melody. Opening with a soothing darkness, Fallen Letters lure you into a rich well of sound elegantly holding your hand and caressing your ears; however, this lure is merely a lulling into a false sense of security.
“’For A While’ delves into the shadows of melancholy, exploring the depths of fractured minds and the echoes of promises unkept. This third release weaves a haunting narrative inviting listeners into a poignant journey through the darker recesses of the soul.” – Fallen Letters on ‘For A While’.
Unlike ‘Remain A Memory’ showcasing strong metal inclinations, ‘For A While’ shudders along the softer side of melodic metal and hard rock. Naidu’s rich vocals ooze compassion and sincerity in their warmth, but a brief burst of metal scream forms a chasm in a sonic river. Interestingly, while the brash blast catches you off-guard, its impact remains harmonious and aligns with the melancholy darkness of ‘For A While’.
In addition to the single, Fallen Letters has released an official music video for ‘For A While’. The video can be viewed below or via their YouTube channel. Please note this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
