Track of the Day: DISCOVER – Lonesome In The Sun (2025)

The brainchild of songwriter and producer Oliver Albert Brion, DISCOVER reaches the part of your brain where language makes no sense, it’s only music. Over the past 20 years – and this is just what I happened to pick up with my online detective skills – Brion is an established name internationally featured on notable publications, heard on acclaimed radio stations, featured on soundtracks like The Bourne Identity, and pretty much-hypnotising audiences with his critically acclaimed releases. Vague, I know, but do you really need to know everything about the past of an awe-inspiring, soul-stirring artist?

While Brion has turned heads and won hearts for decades, this is my introduction; better late than never. Twenty years after the release of his critically acclaimed album, California Songs, Brion returns with a sequel titled Back To California. Following the 2024 singles ‘Loveless’ and ‘Maryland’, ‘Lonesome In The Sun’ is the third original composition embracing his new, pivotal re-emergence.

Listening to ‘Lonesome In The Sun’ is far more than enjoying the smile-inducing music blaring from my speakers, it is a vibrant experience flooded with sonic waves of music. Carrying you along a kaleidoscopic sonic river with fresh beats rushing past your face and twinkling fairy dust shimmering about, ‘Lonesome In The Sun’ is a wistful, whimsical, refreshing breath of ethereal charm.

In my opinion, ‘Lonesome In The Sun’ is not merely a vintage mix of synths, bass, and guitar lilting to indie-pop, peeks of jazz and soulful folk-rock vibes, it brims with modern-day glitter in a retro beat. Bringing a “…touch of lightness and emotion…” to the sunny single, Nova.Cane’s vocals enhance the joyfulness of ‘Lonesome In The Sun’ despite bittersweet melancholy lingering the lyricism.

In addition to the single, DISCOVER released an official music video for ‘Lonesome In The Sun’. You can view the video below and/or hot puma records YouTube channel.
