Track of the Day: Desert Dusk – Y
Borne of different bands that had been disbanded, Stuart Baker (synths and guitar), David Drew (vocals and guitar), Sergio Rubio (bass and keys) and Adam Jacobs (drums and samples) came together to form Desert Dusk. Influenced by artists like Radiohead, Massive Attack, Primal Scream, Queens of the Stone Age and Led Zeppelin, Desert Dusk has a very unique sound. Leaning toward an indie-rock style, but with new wave undertones, this London-based foursome have set some high standards. The latest addition to their repertoire is ‘Y’.
I’ve never been the biggest fan of electronic rock, but, for some reason, Desert Dusk seems to be converting me. The new track ‘Y’ is electronic rock for sure, but the inclination to The Strokes here and there ensures they are anything but typical. A catchy chorus with some heady melodies makes ‘Y’ a real trip from beginning to end. I can’t wait to see what else these lads have up their sleeves.
“Essentially the song is about the heart and why it functions and feels as it does. Our band has many influences – half of us are more rock, the other half more dance. This track is where the dance members won! With a bit of rock thrown in for good measure.” – Desert Dusk on ‘Y’
