Track of the Day: Come At The King – Old Town Fighter

Infusing the sounds of Kings of Leon, The White Stripes, The Charlatans and Oasis, Come At The King is a threesome filled with big riffs, catchy choruses and an infectious vibe. Hailing from London, the UK-based trio is only a couple of years off the ground, but they’re making waves with their unique sound. Performing with the likes of Penny Mob, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the 2020 Isle of Wight Festival’s New Blood competition, the group is gaining a reputation for engaging music. Today we introduce you to Come At The King with our Track of the Day ‘Old Town Fighter’.

The first of their singles in 2020, ‘Old Town Fighter’ is not only the most popular track on Come At The King’s Spotify, but also one that has me playing it on repeat. Leaning toward a Stone Roses and Queens of the Stone Age sound, but with some more grungy guitars and vocals, ‘Old Town Fighter’ is bold, powerful and infectious.

Combining pounding drums and dynamic guitars with gruff vocals showcase a melding of 90s rock with contemporary indie-rock. While the instrumentation holds it own with toe-tapping precision, it is the heavy vocals that really push across the ferocity of ‘Old Town Fighter’. Described as “the fast-paced, blues-infused indie rock and roll energy of early Kings of Leon, Come At The King show a maturity and sophistication placing them alongside those “bigger names”.
