Track of the Day: Clay Joule – REALM

From exuding a sense of relief and hopefulness in ‘Into The Sky’ to offering messages for the next generation of creative visionaries in ‘Nothing’ and looking at the significance of pet adoption in ‘Nothing like Loving You’, Clay Joule is inspired by life in totality. He aims to connect with audiences on an intimate level and have inspiring conversations through his music, and so this continues in 2023. The latest addition to Joule’s well-received discography is the single ‘REALM’.

Hitting the ground running, Joule begins the year with the indie-folk meets pop song ‘REALM’. As with his previous work, ‘REALM’ retains Joule’s signature eclecticism with obscure vocals, charming melodies and powerful lyricism. The new single is, at least to me, the most enchanting of his repertoire. Perhaps it is the harmonic flow between drums and piano. Perhaps it is the insertion of Scottish bagpipes. Perhaps it is the way ‘REALM’ has a kaleidoscopic nature while maintaining a stark rawness in its sound. Whatever it is, I know that ‘REALM’ is a song that sends your heart soaring, sets you off on a glistening sonic pool, and even has tears pricking at the sides of your eyes.

What I enjoy about Clay Joule’s music, beyond the spine-chilling innovativeness, is its originality. Initially penned as a poem but resulting in an anthemic song, ‘REALM’ is profound, thought-provoking and anthemic exploring the “heart-warming and important message about the disparity and love that resulted from the lockdown between the people and authority…the imagery of loyalty and devotion contrasts with the topic’s ‘tears and fears’…it also has a strong and resonant message with a twist of wit.” Sincere, sentimental and sensational, Clay Joule once again delivers a masterpiece of music in ‘REALM’.

In addition to the single, Clay Joule released an official music video for ‘REALM’. You can view the video below or on YouTube.
