Track of the Day: Chris Considine – Dream Away
It was only last week that I was introduced to singer-songwriter Chris Considine, and here he is again entertaining me with marvellous music. The US-based multi-instrumentalist began writing music in his teenage years and before embracing his solo project performed with the group Dugway. Moving on from the disbanded group, Considine is reaching the masses with his unique sound. One of the most recent additions to his discography is the single ‘Dream Away’.
Described by Jangle Pop Hub as a “one-man power-pop god”, Considine brings old-school power-pop music to modern-day audiences with a “little bit of smoke-filled Americana for good measure”. Following his well-received single ‘No Baggage’, ‘Dream Away’ adds a tinge of country to his indie-folk meets folk-pop style. Similar to his single ‘Force of Nature’, ‘Dream Away’ slithers into your ear, sends chills down your spine and fills your soul with a soothing calmness. Considine’s rich vocals make the chilled-out melody that much bolder, warmer and smooth.
Taking the intimacy of James Taylor with the bounciness of The Beatles, Chris Considine has a happy-go-lucky laidback song in ‘Dream Away’. Known for his storytelling nature, Considine uses a personal narrative to connect with audiences on a more, well, personal level. He explains that the song was “based on a memory I had when I was younger. There was an old restaurant called The Dream Away Lodge and I am simply returning to that time to tell a story.”
Yes, it might seem that Considine is merely navigating old memories in ‘Dream Away’ but he showcases depth with the underlying concept. Touching on feelings of longing, the track looks at accepting relationships where the person or item is far from you and potentially never to return. In his words, “the only remedy is a dream…I hope some people use this song as escapism…”
