Track of the Day: Casey Tufnell – Treading Water (Monsters)
Yes, you can call London’s Casey Tufnell a singer-songwriter but, then, you have to have in mind that they are a very busy person as they do so many other things. And, those ‘many other things’ certainly reflect on their music and latest single ‘Treading Water (Monsters).’
You see, you can add to that list being a DJ host, event organiser and host, musician and studying a Popular Music degree. So how do all these roles influence Casey’s music and the latest single? Well, you can’t really define or put a finger on what style or genre Casey favours. Actually, you can say they favour as many as can fit in. In this case, something that would ordinarily be just a ‘simple’ singer-songwriter tune is transformed by Casey introducing jazzy elements combined with some electronic/acoustic backing.
Casey’s vocals particularly stand out, as they are somewhere between Tracy Chapman and one of Casey’s personal favourites, Amy Winehouse. That is quite an achievement in itself because, in the end, Casey sounds like Casey. Judging by‘ Treading Water (Monsters)’ quite an intriguing personality coming up with some quite intriguing music. The one to watch.
