Track of the Day: Brass Moustache – Dickheads

In the two years following a well-received second album, The Trip, Brass Moustache is back and better than ever with their new single ‘Dickheads’. Originally from Australia but now based in Glasgow, Scotland, Steve Tero (performing as Brass Moustache) is pumping out a breed of stoner-rock that they describe as ‘bedroom-pop’. Brass Moustache is inspired by popular music from the ’60s forward with a strong lyrical likeness to Jim O’Rourke. ‘Dickheads’ is the teaser track from their upcoming full-length album Unfulfilled Ambitions.

If I go philosophical on ‘Dickheads’, I can call it an introspective single examining superficial human relationships. Fact is, this song is not that deep. It’s based on the embarrassing ‘morning after the night before’ when you can’t believe how ridiculous you were trying to be so cool – anyone’s who’s been on a drunken night out can relate. Lyrically, it is quite amusing, but it’s ultimately a rather brash, honest and raw take on a common side-effect of drunken nights out.

“The track is a fairly old recording which didn’t fit into the previous album. It’s a song based around the cringing moment after the night before, thinking back to your embarrassing attempts at impressing somebody.” – Brass Moustache on ‘Dickheads’
