Track of the Day: Brad Suennen – Didn’t Last

Despite not always wanting to pursue a musical career, singer-songwriter Brad Suennen fell in love with the art of music after learning to play the guitar at age 13. Over the years, Suennen honed his style and, according to Spotify, began sharing his intriguing sound with the masses in 2021. Featured on blogs from Italy’s Rockel to Britain’s Indie Dock Music Blog and various playlists, Suennen is turning heads on an international scale. The latest addition to his well-received discography is the single ‘Didn’t Last’.

Reputed for an engaging, energetic style, the US-based artist tosses his listeners into whirlpools of sound with each song. Following his debut EP Back & Forth, ‘Didn’t Last’ is a strong rock-inspired single. With tinges of indie-rock layered on alternative rock, the upbeat track oozes energy and joviality. In fact, while the track is pure rock, I hear a tinkling of power-pop in the guitars giving ‘Didn’t Last’ an eclectic edge.

The first release off his upcoming EP Live and Learn, Brad Suennen connects with audiences on an intimate level. Using a personal narrative, he explores human vulnerability and fragility in a hard-hitting way. An insightful and introspective single ‘Didn’t Last’ explores life lessons, dealing with issues you cannot control and ultimately acceptance of change. Suennen explains that the track “is a testament to my growth and one that everybody can relate to in one way or another.”

Effortlessly captivating listeners with his laidback, easy-to-listen-to music, Brad Suennen is a unique natural talent. My one criticism for ‘Didn’t Last’ is that it is too short! Despite being over four minutes long, Suennen leaves you wanting more with each chord. Anthemic, for sure, I can easily see this song being played at festivals with the audience singing along.
