Track of the Day: Blending Borders – Prologue
Described by record label owner Saiid Zeidan as “bringing new life and originality to rock…”, Blending Borders is a unique, obscure group capturing the masses with their sound. Hailing from Austria, Blending Borders is a rock quartet originally formed by singer-songwriter and guitarist Oliver Pichler in 2015. In the past seven years, the group has seen artists come and go, but the final line-up is a group with natural talent and magical music-making skills. Featured on various playlists, Oliver Pichler (vocals and guitar), Felix Holzschuh (bass), David Kabicher (guitar) and Julian Nass (drums) are reaching audiences on an international scale. One of the latest additions to their discography is the single ‘Prologue’.
The first track off their upcoming album Deceiving Dreams Part 1, ‘Prologue’ is a soothing, piano-driven song introducing you to the band and the album’s profound theme of a “…never-ending longing for this marvellous two-class society on an island…” The thing is, while this society seems to be ideal, it can be deceiving as the album lets us know. ‘Prologue’ is the soft, gentle opening leading you carefully into the complex story and journey.
While Blending Borders describe itself as an alternative rock meets progressive rock band, ‘Prologue’ is a beautiful example of soft rock. With the intense intimacy of Peter Gabriel and the obscurity of The Police, ‘Prologue’ showcases how simplistic, acoustic-inspired melodies can be more evocative than frenetic songs with tons of “bells and whistles”. The insertion of strings and guitar with the piano enhances the delicacy of the track; however, Pichler’s rich, warm tones bring a robust boldness to the elegant single.
