Track of the Day: Billow – You’re Safe On Jupiter

In 2016 three lifelong friends came together to form a band. It wasn’t just any band; it was Billow. Technically Billow was formed in 2009 when Lenka Zborilova (vocals), Vojtech Vesely (guitar/synth) and Jakub Zboril (guitar) started making music, but it was at the age of 16 that they officially founded Billow. To date, the trio has performed in Germany, Austria, Slovakia and, of course, the Czech Republic. Not only that but they have supported the likes of Winter, Motorama and Ryder The Eagle.

While not their most recent release – that would be ‘lll’ – Billow’s single ‘You’re Safe On Jupiter’ will blow your minds. Reminiscent of Mazzy Star and Pavement, the synth-based dream-pop single is utterly hypnotic in its swirl of sound. Laying Zborilova’s slightly haunting vocals atop the soothing melody adds a certain siren song element to the track.

Despite ‘You’re Safe On Jupiter’ makes one feel as if they are floating on a cloud, it belies a more profound message. Touching on issues of loss and mourning, Billow showcase depth within the heavenly sound. Raw, honest and evocative, the single captures your body and soul.

“The main theme of this album is”missing persons”. The songs were written about people – family, friends or just inhabitants of our little hometown that we have lost or who have disappeared recently, both literally and figuratively.” – Billow on ‘You’re Safe On Jupiter’
