Track of the Day: Ari Joshua – Elephant Walk (2024)

Ari Joshua caught our eye (or rather ears) last year with the moving single ‘Soul Mine’. From then, we eagerly followed Joshua’s discography with joy and anticipation falling under his spell with the charming songs. Elegantly strutting through various genres with each song, Ari Joshua is indefinable and inimitable with his unique style. From the nostalgic psychedelic rock of ‘Dragons Layer’ to an Americana-tinged ‘Country Stroll’, Joshua proves music can transcend time, space and distance ensnaring everyone’s senses. One of the most recent releases from Ari Joshua is ‘Elephant Walk’.

Following the folk-influenced tune ‘Country Stroll’, ‘Elephant Walk’ is the musical representation of a funky elephant gliding along the jazzed-up kaleidoscopic path. If Nelly The Elephant were to trump along to this single, I bet her journey to and from the circus would be far more entertaining. Ari Joshua explains:

“In my mind, ‘Elephant Walk’ is a carefree and whimsical melody, a musical tale of a young elephant embarking on a quest for truth and freedom exploring the vast landscapes that surround it. After millennia of proud strides within its herds, this majestic creature embarks on a soul-searching journey meeting various animals and symbolic characters along the way… Just as an elephant makes its presence known with each step, ‘Elephant Walk’…uses collaborative imagination to create something enduring and similarly majestic as nature itself.”

While a mishmash collaboration of John Medeski’s piano and organ, Billy Martin’s percussion and Ari Joshua’s guitar, the dynamic tune fits a traditional jazz jam keeping your head guessing; however, as “all over the place”, there is a classical precision in the twirl of instruments. Produced with Chris Bitnner at Applehead Recording, Ed Brooks of Resonant Mastering and Ari Raskin of Deepwater Studios, ‘Elephant Walk’ has a harmonious union and understanding of raw arrangement within a retro jazz distortion.

In addition to the single, Ari Joshua released an official music video for ‘Elephant Walk’. You can view the video below or on Joshua’s YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy.
