Track of the Day: Alicja S – Walk What You Say (2024)
Despite being a newbie in the music industry with only one single beneath her belt and no notable performances, Alicja S is the diamond in the sonic rough. Brimming with sophistication, elegance and charm but with a rough innocence intertwined there is something enigmatic about the Polish vocalist. Eager to explore the vast realm of human emotion with steady songs, Alicja S reflects both dark and heart-warming themes. This is our introduction to Alicja S, just as it is probably your own, so join us as we jump into her debut single ‘Walk What You Say’.
Released earlier this year, ‘Walk What You Say’ reaches far beyond Alicja S’s Polish borders across Europe and to the USA. Yet, it’s not only her fascinating vocals prompting this cross-Atlantic success (although her growing following certainly showcases the power of her voice), but also the inclusion of Italian and American musicians bringing international interest.
Penned and produced by Clement Musco, ‘Walk What You Say’ is a concoction of soothing pop with catches of indie-folk running along the melody. Heartwarming but simultaneously heart-breaking in its delicate acoustic arrangement, the track highlights the power of simplicity to make a massive impact. No bells or whistles, just a piano with Alicja S’s dulcet vocals to send a chill down your spine and grab your heart with breath-taking harmonies.
Just as the single is a melodic masterpiece, the lyricism and theme add weight and profoundness. Clement Musco shares that ‘Walk What You Say’ “…explores the emotional journey – thoughts, feelings and experiences – that one encounters in the quest to find love. Longing, guarded hopes, and the acceptance of unfulfilled expectations…”
Sincere, sentimental and sensational, ‘Walk What You Say’ is one of the more reflective, insightful and honest expressions of poignant relationships. My one concern is that this is the best to come from Alicja S – she might peak with her first track. In my heart, I know this will probably not be the case. Highly recommended.
