Two women unknowingly dating the same man is the story that Tori Cross and Katy Alex weave in ‘Beautiful Stranger’. Through the single, the pair discover the deceit and band together against the man in question telling him that he karma will get him. The tale is an uplifting breakup song featuring women supporting each other and knowing their own worth.
The track came to life as a challenge from LIMF academy which both Cross and Alex are alumni of. Faced with the challenge to write, record and produce a new song virtually during lockdown, the pair based in Birmingham and Liverpool got started. Via Facetime and WhatsApp, they created the single and loved the final product enough to share it with the world. Frankly, I’m glad they did because it is a wonderful pop song
‘Beautiful Stranger’ grabs your attention with these stop-start synth notes that thump against you. The tone created in the opening threads through the rest of the single. Some deeper synths are added to the mix to create this very neo-soul vibe to the undertones of the melody. There is a richness to the melody that works perfectly with both Cross and Alex’s vocals.
The vocals on the track continue the richness of the melody. Both Cross and Alex have smooth voices that meld together perfectly for the chorus. Their higher notes are perfect and work with the melody wonderfully. Through their performance, the support offered by the women in the story plays out sonically. Their controlled performances also bolster the lyrics of the track. It is a wonderfully engaging single that you will be singing along to.
