Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps – The Day I Found You (2025)

In some cases, musicians don’t always become better, they fade away into obscurity. A bad style change; a poorly received release; or just the desire to step back – some don’t stick around. Today, we look at a singer-songwriter whose excellence and mastery of music ensure he stands out, and probably always will. May I introduce Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps.

Following the well-received 2024 tracks ‘Redondo Beach Werewolves’ and ‘Sweet Surrender’, Tikka joins forces with long-time collaborator Janne Saksa on ‘The Day I Found You’. Breathing life into old-school alternative rock, he drags us back to the days of REM and The New Radicals. With soaring guitars, pulsating drums, and a bold bassline, ‘The Day I Found You’ simultaneously engulfs you in a kaleidoscopic haze and lays out as a smooth, soothing, laidback conversation.

“’The Day I Found You’ is one of my better ones, I think. It has a great groove and so much energy. I love the bass. It’s the instrumental hero of the song, inspired by Paul McCartney’s basslines. It’s catchy and it was a lot of fun to record…” – Tom Tikka on ‘The Day I Found You’

Think of those films where the protagonist is carrying on with the same routine as yesterday, but then things happen leading him off to find love, a new life, a new whatever… ‘The Day I Found You’ is part of the soundtrack. It’s the song you don’t forget. It’s the song you sing or hum for days on it, and then you can’t remember the title or artist but it’s there. Lurking in your brain forever and a day – that’s Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps.

In addition to the single, Tikka released an official music video for ‘The Day I Found You’. Scripted, filmed, directed and edited by Elina Suominen, the video can be found below or on Tikka’s YouTube channel.
