Tom Speight – The One (2023)

Tipped as one of the most intriguing talents to hit the UK in a long time, singer-songwriter Tom Speight has been referred to as “remarkable” (The Independent), “…raw and infectious…” (The Telegraph), “enchanting” (The Times), and “…blending heart-wrenching lyricism with a powerful delivery…” (Music & Fashion Blog). Alongside these praises, he is reaching international ears with coverage from CLOUT, Channel 5 News, The Metro, Pop Passion, Essentially Pop, Metal Magazine, Fame Magazine, Music News, When The Horn Blows, and even Sir Paul McCartney reckons he “wouldn’t change a thing” about Speight. With critical acclaim coming from all sides and his notable performances including support for Ed Sheeran, James Bay, Stereophonics and Maisie Peters, to name but a few, it’s clear UK-based Tom Speight is hitting all the right notes.

Following his standout EP, You & I, and his acoustic cover of Brenda Lee’s ‘Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree’, Tom Speight explores a new sound with the single ‘The One’. Retaining a Tom Odell tone in the track, Speight brings a distinctive obscurity to the pop single. Yet, while folk-pop is something Speight leans toward, ‘The One’ has a rockier, more indie vibe to the melody. The incorporation of operatic strings and piano underlying dynamic guitars and drums finds the line between enchanting wistfulness and bold energy.

Known for his acoustic-inspired songs, Speight keeps an organic element to his melody; however, the lead guitar appears to have a heavier edge aligning with an indie-rock soundscape. The thing is, while ‘The One’ brings a new dimension to Speight’s music, the intimacy and vulnerability of his heart-wrenching ballads remain. Speight’s vocals may be resolute but a wisp of fragility leaks through the evocative execution.

In addition to the single, Tom Speight released an official music video for ‘The One’. You can view the video below or on his official YouTube channel:
