Tom Minor – Future Is An F Word (2025)

After years of writing songs for other musicians across the globe, singer-songwriter Tom Minor chose to share his poetic lyricism with original music as a solo artist – and we’re so pleased he did. From his 2023 single, ‘Saturday Eats Its Young’, to 2024’s ‘Is Everything Okay?’, UK-based Minor showcases his natural flair for powerful melodies, evocative content, and intoxicating aura. We began listening to his work last year with ‘The Bad Life’, today we take a gander at his new single, ‘Future Is An F Word’.

Following the well-received album Eleven Easy Pieces on Anger & Disappointment, Minor joins forces with producer Teaboy Palmer on ‘Future Is An F Word’. While one might consider labelling ‘Future Is An F Word’ as an indie-rock tune, this is not necessarily accurate showcasing Minor’s innovative nature.

Musical alchemists Minor and Palmer concoct a shimmering melodic concoction of indie-rock, Britpop, and power-pop with classical avant-garde sentiments. Brimming with obscurity and an off-kilter sense of “okaaay then”, ‘Future Is An F Word’ oscillates between discomfort and contentedness in three minutes of eccentricity. Each instrument acts like a separate track creating a cinematic soundscape while capturing you in a bamboo cage of sound.

As intriguing as the melody is, it is the entwining of sound and words to creatively capture the overall theme that is at the forefront. On one side, ‘Future Is An F Word’ delving into the deterioration of intimate relationships; however, it is also a brash shout-out declaring a need to stand up to its end flooded by empowerment. Minor explains:

“…the single is a classically entertaining lament of a relationship gone sour, or is it… a highly eloquent piece of political commentary on the inevitable global climate disaster – the probability of humankind doing fuck all about it before it’s too late and we’re all going to die a terrible heat-induced death… perhaps a bit of both…”
