Tired of Fighting – Branches (2024)
If Dashboard Confessional and Fall Out Boy were to have a kid, but Taking Back Sunday raised it, the chances are it would be Tired of Fighting. The adoptive brother of Paramore, this Newcastle trio is an explosive snippet of early 2000s emo dragged to the 2020s. Known for powerful, raw and energetic performances, the lads captivate audiences at their shows; however, the emotional vulnerability of their releases turns heads across the globe. The melodies interwoven with poetic lyricism oscillate between uplifting highs and desperate lows, so come with us as we take a deeper look at their new single ‘Branches’.
Following the well-received single ‘Out of the Forest’, Tired of Fighting saunter into 2024 with ‘Branches’. We came across Tired of Fighting in 2022 with ‘Hollow’ and while a steady pop-punk/emo sound vibrates through the band’s repertoire, ‘Branches’ appears to capture everything they were and create a sound of what they are and will be. A combination of the harsh debut ‘Night Dwellers’ to the lighter ‘Out of the Forest’, ‘Branches’ is a sophisticated single with rugged simplicity clinging to the arrangement.
Breathing life into the nostalgic whispers of old-school Taking Back Sunday meets Paramore, Tired of Fighting tip their hat at the 2000s; however, a sliver of older sounds flutter through the emo sheen. For me, the pounding drums and scorching guitars build a hurricane of sound tossing you about at breakneck speed. Yet, the rock-inspired chaos has a slice of 80s/90s indie-rock hidden in the vocals. Interestingly, the sliver of indie-rock comes to an abrupt halt mid-way through ‘Branches’ in a shocking silence – I mean everything suddenly disappears – and does not appear again.
Highlighting their innovative musicality, the break between opening insanity is suddenly cut short with movement to a slower alternative rock tone. Gently, you drift through the mystical fog catching your breath. Sincere but with an eerie vulnerability, Tired of Fighting hit you with breath-taking haunting. More emotional than the opening craziness, the flush of calm enhances the skin-chilling rawness of ‘Branches’.
In addition to the single, Tired of Fighting released an official music video for ‘Branches’. You can view the video below or on YouTube. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
