Third Girl From The Left – Silent Sea (2023)

Since her well-received debut EP, Oxygen, in 2021, singer-songwriter Third Girl From The Left has been described as “thoroughly outstanding” (Get To The Chorus), “adventurous and delightful…” (Sonic Breakfast), and “like no other…” (Chalk Pit Records). Blending a hypnotic sound filled with dark intimacy and alternative rock melodrama, the UK-based artist can ensnare your senses and intoxicate your mind. Formed only a couple of years ago, she might be considered a minnow in a sonic pool of sharks, but this minnow is fierce and hard to ignore. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Silent Sea’.

The first release since her 2021 single ‘The Mountain and The Wave’, Third Girl From The Left re-emerges with ‘Silent Sea’. Moving from the obscurity of her indie-rock meets alt-pop ‘The Mountain and The Wave’, this talented songstress adopts a softer, more soothing tone in her new work. Honing her sound, ‘Silent Sea’ appears to be an evolution in Third Girl From The Left’s sound leaning toward the wistfulness of Kate Bush and alluring oddness of Lorde.

Recorded in her home studio, ‘Silent Sea’ blends an indie-rock guitar with orchestral strings and percussion finding the line between classical and contemporary. As with her previous work, Third Girl From The Left retains an intense vulnerability woven into her sonic tapestry. This is particularly evident as the haunting vocals traipse across a hazy, wistful, cinematic soundscape. Fragile, intimate and heart-aching, ‘Silent Sea’ offers a sense of escapism through the melody.

So, overall, what do I think of Third Girl From The Left and ‘Silent Sea’? From Oxygen to ‘Silent Sea’, this poetic songstress sends your soul soaring. Listening to her music is like touching delicate crystals and staring in disbelief at how beautiful it is.
