The7thGatekeeper – Watch It Burn (2024)

Creating music that is “raw and real”, UK-based The7thGatekeeper uses his natural creativity to communicate, inspire and express reality in all its gritty glory. A one-man band, the multi-instrumentalist performs, programmes and produces pretty much everything himself – perhaps this is why the music appears so intimate, intense and, well, raw. Can you imagine Slipknot, Dolly Parton and Muse linked in a melting pot of music? The7thGatekeeper draws the influence of each, but I’m unsure whether we’ll hear some Parton twang in the tunes. Come with us as we delve into his single ‘Watch It Burn’.

Opening 2024 with a blast, ‘Watch It Burn’ is one of the taster tracks leading up to The7thGatekeeper’s debut album Breakdowns or Breakthroughs, set for release in Autumn this year. An album offering social commentary on human emotions within intricate songs “challenging listeners to confront fear and chaos…”, ‘Watch It Burn’ is the beginning of this dreary light on existence. Profound and poignant, the single explores capitalistic society, its overall control of the world, the effect on an average human, and all in all a cathartic wrap of raging solace. The7thGatekeeper explains:

“’Watch It Burn’ is an expression of frustration and anger. The unique balance of our planet is being destroyed. Consumption reigns, hypocrisy thrives.”

Preceding the singles ‘It’s With Me Today’ and ‘We See You’, ‘Watch It Burn’ is a heady rush of “in your face gut-wrenching insanity”. Recorded and produced by The7thGatekeeper, with mixing and mastering by Romesh Dodangoda at Longwave Studios, ‘Watch It Burn’ is filled with crashing drums, searing guitars and a bold bass bringing the hard-hitting anchor.

Confident and powerful with a bit of chaos, the melody perfectly represents angst, aggression, rage and despair in a ball of music; however, just as there is rage, there is a sense of unity in ‘Watch It Burn’. The interplay between rich vocals and slices of metal screams oscillates from raw frustration to a harmonic sentiment that no one is alone in this situation; we’re all in a dreary mire but there’s at least one other person who understands.
