The Weird Sisters – WAITING SO LONG (2023)
In 1989, singer Paula Abdul confessed that opposites attract in her single ‘Opposites Attract’. The gruffness of The Wild Pair’s vocals matching her soothing tones show that things at either side of the spectrum can work in sync. In some cases, this isn’t always true; however, The Weird Sisters prove opposites attract in their harmonious music. Hailing from the USA, soulful Gabrielle Lewis weaves her sonic spell around Izaac Short’s funky grooves to enchant the masses. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘WAITING SO LONG’.
Following their well-received singles ‘BIRD’ and ‘RIDE THAT SATELLITE’, ‘WAITING SO LONG’ has a contemporary indie-rock flair clinging to the nostalgic blast of retro funk-rock. A swift kick back to the 1970s, the smashing drums elegantly meld into bold guitars with ease. Interestingly, while the arrangement is sophisticated and laidback, the pace of ‘WAITING SO LONG’ is upbeat, rushed and has you gasping for breath as the song progresses.
Only one minute in length, I wasn’t too sure if this single would be wanting or over-the-top. In one way, its rapid pace whisks you through a journey of remembrance running at a breakneck speed, so that might be considered over-the-top. Yet, the soulful lilt of funk in an indie-rock tone chills things out bringing a calm effect beneath the chaos leaving me wanting more; not them being found wanting but me clamouring for more from The Weird Sisters.
“On a road trip back to Nashville from Dallas, we stopped every few miles when something caught our attention. Passing the camera back and forth led to hours of midwestern impressionism….” – The Weird Sisters on ‘WAITING SO LONG’
Recorded and produced by The Weird Sisters with mixing by Mike Fahey and mastering by John Baldwin, ‘WAITING SO LONG’ is the psychedelic taster track from the upcoming space-disco album Who Are The Weird Sisters?
In addition to the single, The Weird Sisters released an official music video for ‘WAITING SO LONG’. You can view the video below or on their YouTube channel.
