The Trouble Notes – Never Dream Alone (2022)

From Europe to North America, German band The Trouble Notes have performed for audiences garnering a large following. In fact, their international tours have not only sold out but earned them a Grammy Award for their “Mettavolution” Tour. Alongside their outstanding performances, The Trouble Notes have been turning heads across the globe since 2017 when they released a series of videos performing in France and Germany (which happened to amass more than 100 million views on social media). I am disappointed that I did not learn about this group back then, but I am over the moon (as you should be too) that The Trouble Notes have made their way across my virtual desk.

Featured in international press like Americana Highways, Music Crowns, Tinnitist, Good Music Radio, Photogroupie Music, and many more, The Trouble Notes are a force to be reckoned with. Lying somewhere between folk, classical and tribal dance music, this talented group has an eclectic and provocative sound. Following their single ‘Liberty Awaits’, which tells the tale of Irish immigrants, ‘Never Dream Alone’ is as cinematic, operatic, kaleidoscopic and conceptually, well, fun!

Written and filmed at the summer edition of Europe’s largest outdoor cosplay festival, Elfia, The Trouble Notes embrace the eccentricity and fantastical nature of cosplay. Wonderfully weird, ‘Never Dream Alone’ has the nature of a film score which is probably apt considering the idea behind the song. A fan of cosplay, I found ‘Never Dream Alone’ exciting, and when I began the track I was immediately tossed into the realms of Merlin, Highlander, Game of Thrones, and even a tinge of Hornblower rustling through the leaves. In other words, get the medieval costumes out because it’s time to dance about with leaves in your hair.

As I mentioned, the song is cinematic; however, what makes it even more enticing is the cross-genre sentimentality of the track. Folk meets classical tones emerge from the heart-warming music. Each element is toe-tapping, but I must admit the insertion of a violin makes my heart skip a beat. Rich, full-bodied and vibrant, The Trouble Notes continue their musical vivacity in ‘Never Dream Alone’.
