The Silent Era – Scorpio (2023)
Known for their energetic performances, The Silent Era have been described by gig-goers as “like nothing I’ve heard before”, “the best thing I’ve heard since Nirvana”, and “I’ve been waiting to see a band like you for as long as I can remember”. Building a following with their confident stage presence, the lads and lady are establishing themselves in the UK music scene. Yet, it is not only turning heads via gigs. Features on Rock Era Magazine, Illustrate Magazine, The Metal Asylum, Music For All, and various radio stations, The Silent Era reaching audiences on an international scale.
Following their debut single ‘Heavy Cure’, The Silent Era released ‘Scorpio’. As with ‘Heavy Cure’, ‘Scorpio’ presents a strong grunge flavour within an alternative rock melody. However, while the debut single is heavy in itself, this new song takes it one step further inserting a metal-influenced tone. The pounding drums match dynamic guitars creating a powerful blast of sound. Add Macanas’ bold vocals and you have a sound lying between Nightwish, Flyleaf and Halestorm – but with a more soothing tone to the chaotic grittiness.
It might be contradictory to describe an abrupt, frenzied metal track as soothing, but this is just what The Silent Era offer in ‘Scorpio’. A raw vulnerability oozes from Macanas voice bringing a grimy rawness to the scorching melody. Sophisticated and elegant but fierce and brash, ‘Scorpio’ brings the electricity from The Silent Era’s live performances to their studio-recorded single.
Just as the melody grabs hold of your body and squeezes all the air from your lungs, the lyricism scrambles your brain with its poetic profoundness. Touching on obsession, ‘Scorpio’ is a den of frustration, angst, inner turmoil and desperation expressed in a fist-pumping song.
“Originally, I wrote the lyrics purely from the perspective of being conflicted by deep emotions towards someone or something dark and desirable realising my obsession and confessing quite blatantly that I know pursuing it all will be “the death of me”, but as the song developed, I realised some of the metaphors are akin to what you read surrounding addiction and abuse of illicit substances…” – The Silent Era on ‘Scorpio’
