The Sex Guys – Tin Foil Hat (2025)

Loud, raucous, rambunctious, outrageous and totally in-your-face, Australia-based The Sex Guys bring raw punk rock energy with each of their melodies. With their confident stage presence, the trio intoxicates audiences at shows; however, their confidence blasts through speakers turning heads far beyond their Australian borders. This is my introduction to The Sex Guys, so I’m really intrigued to discover some of this Aussie punk music. Join me as I delve headfirst into their most recent single ‘Tin Foil Hat’.

Following a year of touring and studio sessions, The Sex Guys blast into 2025 with a fierce sonic whirlwind in ‘Tin Foil Hat’ – the opener to a “mammoth year ahead for the electrifying trio…” Binding the natural talents of Dennis Levonis, Geordie McCallister, and Jordan Vial’L, ‘Tin Foil Hat’ is a sonic tapestry of vivid punk rock sliced with undertones of garage rock; a unique sound showcasing The Sex Guys’ eclecticism and innovation.

The best way to describe ‘Tin Foil Hat’ is an experience instead of just a few minutes of music. Dragging you to the retro world of 90s punk, The Sex Guys toss you about in a sonic hurricane. Shoved from kaleidoscopic pillar to post, the crashing drums match a bold bass with soaring guitars. Interestingly, while the instrumentation clashes and tumbles in a crazy fight, each element demands attention before smoothing out in a tumultuous but amicable way.

Melodically, ‘Tin Foil Hat’ brims with confidence, brashness, boisterous energy, and a bubbling shout of laughter; however, it is the lyricism and theme add another dash of quirkiness. The Sex Guys explain:

“The song is about the frustrations of dealing with someone knee-deep in conspiracy theories. I say knee-deep because they only have surface-level info – they’re not at the balls-deep level where people in suits would be after them. This song is about those guys. And flat Earth bros – they’re wrong too.”
