The Rolling People – I’ll Be There (2024)

Known for their energetic live performances, The Rolling People are intoxicating audiences across their native UK and far abroad. Ferocious confidence and enthusiasm ensnare senses on the live scene while head-spinning tracks make their way across the internet. From the UK to Germany, the USA, Belgium, France, Brazil and many other countries, Charlie, Elliot, George and Asa are considered one of the best up-and-coming bands in 2023 – and I think they’re holding their own as one of the best bands in 2024.

Following their well-received single ‘Grateful For Nothing’, The Rolling People march into 2024 with ‘I’ll Be There’. While ‘Grateful For Nothing’ continued the Oasis-inspired sound of their debut EP An Introduction, ‘I’ll Be There’ steps slightly aside from the tried-and-tested Blur meets Oasis sound bringing heavier, harder, more powerful rock to the fore. Based on the new single, I might consider The Rolling People to be a merging of Blur and The Stone Roses; however, the lads ooze a raw youthfulness from each gritty chord. Eager to stand up amidst the crowd with something refreshing from the Manchester rock scene, ‘I’ll Be There’ contains slips of alternative rock in a half-and-half combination of Britpop and indie-rock. Frontman Charlie McNichol explains that ‘I’ll Be There’ was penned “out of a desire for a modern rock anthem in a time where there are none in sight. We wanted to harness the punk rock feel…”

Listening to ‘I’ll Be There’ is similar to falling into a sonic whirlpool feeling the breeze of kaleidoscopic water flit across your face. Embracing the “punk rock feel”, the whirlpool is anything but a fun twirl; instead, the crashing guitars match pounding drums tossing you from one side to the other. Bold and ferocious, an almost feral intensity exudes from ‘I’ll Be There’, however, the dulcet vocals hold you close in a warm embrace. Safe and soothing while chaotic and mind-boggling, The Rolling People find the line between sophisticated elegance and hopeless vulnerability in the melody and profound lyricism. McNichol explains:

“Most of the tune revolves around the feeling of having someone’s back in all circumstances whether that be a friend or a lover, but also the anger and entrapment of selling out to live a life you truly don’t want to live.
