The Rising – I Want You (2020)

Together Chantelle McAteer (vocals) and Chris Logan (guitars, banjo, mandolin) form the Northern Irish country-pop and rock due The Rising. After their dark and heavy last release, they are back with something a little breezier. Their latest track ‘I Want You’ is a summery breeze across the senses.

Looking at the feeling of falling in love, particularly those first moments when you are unsure of the other person’s feelings, the track is a sonic exploration. All the instruments are played by the band other than the trumpet and drums. Chris Bush laid down the drums for the song.

‘I Want You’ uses horns to create the breezy melody of the single. This leads to a driving acoustic guitar melody that gets you to move to the beat. There are a few layers to the melody added by the banjo, trumpet and light distortions. The music is fun and upbeat which create the ideal foundation for McAteer’s vocals.

Her vocals have this delightful country twang to them, but also carry a rock-pop tone. There is something unbelievably catchy and engaging about her performance that will have you singing along to the chorus. The different elements of this song make it easy for anyone to listen to because there are pop notes, country-tinged vocals and lively horns.

The Rising takes an upbeat turn with their rock/modern country single ‘I Want You’. This lively and engaging track is fun to listen to from start to finish. If you are looking for a song that can liven up our day, this is the one you should consider.
