The Rhythm Bullies – Dysnomia (2021)
The battle between good and evil has been raging since time immemorable. While this is true, the ideological clashes of the last year caused The Rhythm Bullies to look at post-modern times a little more and resulted in ‘Dysnomia’. To bring the current battle between the forces of good and evil, the band uses the Greek legend of Dysnomia as a reference point.
Taking inspiration from post-punk, this debut single is an edgy depiction of the chaos of modern times brought to your ears by Sebastian Mogan (vocals, guitar synth) as well as his interchanging band members. While Mogan has performed as a solo artist, the idea for the band came to him during the pandemic and is ready to hit you with a modern hard rock space opera.
The deep thrumming bass of ‘Dysnomia’ pulses through your brain from the first second. There is a thumping hard rock feeling to the opening, while the guitar that comes in from the middle layers draws you into a more galactic vibe. The music is an amazing fusion of hard rock, space rock and plucky tones. Through the movement of the music, you are taken on a journey into space while the waves of chaotic battles buffer against your senses. The guitar solo later in the track is wonderful as it leads you to a choral celestial finale that is utterly beautiful.
Mogan’s vocals have a slightly retro feeling in with a touch of post-punk and the 80s. There is a poetic vibe to the lyrics as he draws you into the space opera of the track. The story of the lyrics leads you to the powerful chorus that has a catchy refrain that you might just to chant. While the melody takes a space edge, the vocals remain stable while pumping a reflection on the world into your veins. The choir brings an ethereal beauty to the last moments of the single.
The Rhythm Bullies reflect on the chaos of modern times and the fight of good versus evil through the spacey rock and celestial tones of ‘Dysnomia’. Using the Greek legend as a reference point, Mogan creates poetic lyrics that pull you into a wonderful space opera. Each element of the track enhances the story and messaging for a powerful journey.
