The Rapports – Wanna Be (2022)
Bringing together a passion for Britpop and indie-rock, The Rapports is an evocative quartet with an engaging sound. Formed in 2016, the UK-based group has moved from strength to strength reaching audiences on an international level. Along with their features in RGM, Loud Hacker, Punk-Rocker, From The Strait and numerous playlists, they have also turned heads with their performances. Playing at The Great Escape Festival, supporting Cast and, more recently, touring with Creeping Jean for their UK tour, The Rapports are definitely ones to watch. The latest addition to their discography is ‘Wanna Be’.
Following their well-received track ‘Dreamer’ (read our review here), The Rapports send you spiralling down a sonic slide with their single ‘Wanna Be’. Lying somewhere between Kings of Leon, Franz Ferdinand and The Strokes, Tom Skilton and his crew set your toes tapping in the upbeat melody. Filled with pounding drums, dynamic guitars and rich vocals, there is a soothing quality to the melody. The thing is, while there is a smooth flow to the song, the upbeat arrangement adds a sense of frenzy and an “I have to jump about to this” effect. In other words, ‘Wanna Be’ is pulsating, pumping and utterly infectious.
Described by the group as being a song about “wanting to make it”, ‘Wanna Be’ is filled with empowerment. Unlike the previous ‘Dreamer’, this song has no melancholic reflection and is pure uplifting bounciness. Reminiscent of Caleb Followill from Kings of Leon, Skilton’s bold vocals insert warmth into the kaleidoscopic single.
In addition to the single, The Rapports released an official music video for ‘Wanna Be’. You can view the video below or on the band’s YouTube Channel. Please note: this music video contains lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. View at own discretion.
