Track of the Day: The Rafters – Reasons

“Punk’s Not Dead!” – so goes one of the more known rock phrases around. And yes, it is true. It just depends on how the bands aided by this slogan approach their music. Are they just going through the motions, just repeating the well-worn moves and grooves, or are they truly applying themselves and putting all their feel, knowledge and emotion into their (punk-ish) music?

The Rafters are a relatively new Blackburn, Lancashire (UK) band formed in summer 2019 by members of now-defunct Blackburn bands Middle Finger Salute and The Shade. They quickly set the pace of what they were all about when only having been in existence for a very short space of time and were picked up. Their track ‘Slippin’ Away’ was played by Soccer AM and subsequently added to their playlist.

But even with the hurdles created by the virus pandemic, the band was able to come up with a new single this year titled ‘Reasons’. Immediately you get why they are creating a buzz with fans of fast-paced rock with a punkish flavour. Quick, no-nonsense licks and vocals with the band giving the well-known sound a bit of modern treatment. As if they were sipping some fresh oil and gas into a machine that some might consider obsolete.

Yet there is nothing obsolete with the punk The Rafters come up with here. They know what they’re doing and they do it well putting their heart and soul into the track. This one will end up on many playlists too.
