The Pulltops – Waiting Here (2024)
When we last heard from The Pulltops, and it wasn’t that long ago because we totally love their music and they are on personal playlists, the duo released their well-received EP Sight Lines. Including a folk-rock cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Have You Ever Seen The Rain?’, Sight Lines is a kaleidoscopic plethora of folk, indie-rock, indie-pop and some rock-infused music. Skip ahead a couple of months, guitarist Tom Crowell and drummer Mark Pierret continue to astound with their most recent single ‘Waiting Here’. Ready for this wave of music? Join us on the journey.
Drawing together their diverse influences and styles, The Pulltops hardly stray from a classic pop and indie-rock formula; however, the innovation and creativity of the pair seem to roll out songs from all types of genres. Stepping into the heavier sound of alternative rock, but with a twist of psychedelic synths, ‘Waiting Here’ carries a hard rock-tinged sound surrounded by the bright lights of psychedelic pop.
Listening to The Pulltops always seems to send a shiver down my spine with a soul-stirring quality; this is no different in ‘Waiting Here’. What I do find different is the contradictory emotion of sparking joy and dark creepiness. Electric flecks of high-voltage current shoot from each direction, yet the demure darkness clings to the off-kilter track with a very welcome obscurity. The Pulltops explain:
“The song delves deep into the emotions of waiting for something that seems just out of reach, a sentiment many can relate to. It’s not just a song; it’s an experience that speaks to the human condition…”
In addition to the single, The Pulltops released a lyric video for ‘Waiting Here’. You can view the video below or on their YouTube channel. Please note that the video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
