The Pulltops – On Christmas Day (I Saw Three Ships) (2024)

Most bands make an impression on listeners, but it takes someone special to stand out in our memories; The Pulltops fall into the unforgettable category. More than that, The Pulltops are not only unforgettable but have a means of bringing comfort with each of their singles, astounding and calming us all with every release. For about two years, Tom Crowell (guitar) and Mark Pierret (drums) made their mark on The Other Side Reviews with rock, country, folk, pop and even a hit of soul. Today, they engage a variety of pop-punk meets pop-rock in their new single, ‘On Christmas Day (I Saw Three Ships)’.

Following the well-received singles ‘Red Eye Open Sky’ and ‘Ain’t Home Anymore’, The Pulltops bring a jovial bounciness to audiences with ‘On Christmas Day (I Saw Three Ships)’. Leaning toward 90s groups like McFly, a nostalgic hit of yesteryear leaps from the track – perfect for the Christmas tune we all desire during this holiday season. Holding a cup of warm cocoa, nestled next to the Christmas tree, staring at a roaring fire and loving every second, The Pulltops harness the core of Yuletide; however, add a slant of rock-induced edginess to the scenario.

As I listen to the single that is now on repeat, the similarity to McFly becomes clearer with particular emphasis on the brashness of 90s/2000s pop-punk. Blending powerful guitars and dynamic drums, you are lost in a whirlwind of heady music shoving you from pillar to post; however, a certain pop-induced charm places you in a sonic bubble weathering the storm.

While the Christmas song ‘I Saw Three Ships’ has been performed by Sting, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Blackmore’s Night, and many more, it is The Pulltops who bring an even greater sense of grinning enthusiasm with their “high-energy twist to the timeless tune…”

In addition to the single, The Pulltops released several lyric videos for ‘On Christmas Day (I Saw Three Ships)’ – I think there are five. You can view one of the videos below and on their YouTube channel.
