The Pulltops – Here We Are (2024)

Coming in with a bold burst of country and soul from the right, record collector Mark Pierret stands up tall. Heading in from the left with a gleam of experimental sounds, record collector and guitarist Tom Crowell stomps in. Meeting in the middle, instead of a mad collision, we have a fusion of indie-rock, power-pop and indie-pop with a grin on their faces. Already a popular artist on many international blogs from the UK to Australia and France, we welcome The Pulltops again to our music arena.

Traipsing along our ears in a delicate skip, The Pulltops grabbed our interest a few years back and continue to enchant us. Following the rock-inspired singles ‘Wide Awake’, ‘Better Life’ and ‘Stronger’, Pierret and Crowell began 2023 with a heavier sound; however, the lighter indie-pop tones of ‘With You’ showed a gentler side to the pair. As 2023 ended, a folk-pop sheen shimmered across ‘Make Me Smile’… so, what do The Pulltops have for us in 2024?

Following the well-received single ‘Make Me Smile’, The Pulltops enter 2024 with ‘Here We Are’. Finding a blend between brighter pop and heavier rock, ‘Here We Are’ is a powerful Americana track with strong old-school country inflexion. A flood of pounding drums glides along the soulful guitar with a strong country lilt oozing from rich, warm vocals.

The final release after a steady run of singles, The Pulltops shows they are not to be pigeon-holed with insatiable, inimitable music. Along with the moving melodies suited for massive festivals, there is an emotional depth to the powerful tracks. When speaking about ‘Here We Are’, the pair explain:

“The underlying theme of overcoming life challenges that weaves its way through many of the songs remains here as well, but it also cautions us that while what doesn’t kill us may make us stronger…it is sometimes at a cost.”
