The Pulltops – 3-2-1 Go! (2024)
Each week more musicians come across our virtual desk and while sometimes overwhelming, this is the best part of my job. Regardless of whether they are well-known or complete newbies, each artist presents something exciting or intriguing. Unfortunately, most fall to the wayside; however, certain artists wriggle deep into our memory bank and are entirely unforgettable. The Pulltops is one of these artists.
Hailing from the USA (Milwaukee to be specific), Tom Crowell and Mark Pierret are anything but pedestrian. Drawing together their diverse influences, experiences and preferences, The Pulltops is where they find common ground with classic pop and alternative rock melodies. Keeping our interest piqued with a unique blend of pop, rock and folk, the lads follow their well-received single ‘Here We Are’ with ‘3-2-1 Go!’.
Similar to ‘Here We Are’, The Pulltops retain the powerful blend of pop rock and Americana in ‘3-2-1 Go!’; however, a more eclectic obscurity seems to linger in the new melody. The Pulltops’ music is always felt instead of merely heard and listening to ‘3-2-1 Go!’ is like riding along a kaleidoscopic river with each wave surging in a breathtaking delight. It could also be riding with your arms open on a galloping stallion with the rush of music flying by your ears. The choice is yours, but the emotion is always soul-stirring and hypnotic – as if your chest were bursting with joy.
Powerful drums and guitars are the core of ‘3-2-1 Go!’ but the slip of keyboards adds a retro punch clinging to the track with glittering glory. I find it interesting how the song’s theme is left hanging in the melody itself. The Pulltops explain that the single is “an upbeat energetic anthem about diving headfirst into making your dreams come true” and this is the exact vibe of ‘3-2-1 Go!’. No questions, no complexities, just the raw force and insatiable clarity of optimistic empowerment.
In addition to the single, The Pulltops released a lyric video for ‘3-2-1 Go!’. You can view the video below on their YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is strongly advised.
