The Pearl Harts – Pure (2024)

Completely unadulterated rock is what The Pearl Harts are selling and I am 100% buying it. Back with ‘Pure’, their first single since 2023’s Love, Chaos, it’s clear the duo have continued with momentum from last year delivering a track with the same energy and attitude as they’ve given since they exploded on the scene in 2012’s Skeleton Made of Diamonds.

Bursting with riot grrrl energy, ‘Pure’ gets your heart racing with its simple yet effective beat. This track also has a sound that harks back to the original riot grrrls The Runaways, with a chant Joan Jett herself would be proud of. With all the edge of any good punk, it keeps your foot tapping and will have you singing along for weeks. The spoken word section in the middle of the song gives a welcome breather from the fist-pumping chorus, whilst keeping the rebellious attitude and aggression flowing. ‘Pure’ is a perfect example that rock ain’t broke so no need to try and fix it; simple yet effective music at its best.

The likes of Garbage and PJ Harvey are clear influences and they would be proud that the sound they crafted throughout the 90s is in safe hands with The Pearl Harts. If you’re new to The Pearl Harts like I was before I got the opportunity to review this track, their back catalogue is worth your time, with 2018’s Glitter and Spit and last year’s Love, Chaos there is plenty to dive into. I hope like me, you won’t be disappointed. It truly is some of the best pure rock I’ve heard.

With ‘Pure’ shattering the airways and coming straight off a short tour including three dates supporting British rock old boys Feeder, 2024 has gotten off to a great start. Here’s hoping more new music isn’t far behind.
