The Neuromaniacs – Revelations (2024)

Originally reaching our ears as Johnny & The Brewsers, Ireland-based Johnny Brewer chooses to saunter across a different realm of sound with his new project The Neuromaniacs. After returning to college to study Music and Sound Production, he explored electronic music experimenting with rock inflexions across the cinematic electronica; hence, we have The Neuromaniacs. Known mostly for a blues-rock-based tone, this is a complete jump to uncharted territories, but it is exciting. Join us as we take the leap alongside Brewer with his debut single ‘Revelations’.

A melting pot of influences, Brewer plays with electronic rock, EDM, synth-wave, dark wave and hard rock as The Neuromaniacs. Adopting a true DIY approach to music production, ‘Revelations’ is penned, recorded, engineered, mixed and mastered by Brewer at his home. An entirely new experience as this is his first time completing all aspects of the production process, so ‘Revelations’ can be considered a labour of love as well as an exciting move in a new direction.

Despite being a newbie at overall production in the electronic-inspired realm of sound, ‘Revelations’ is a sophisticated melody with mature elegance. Yet, while you are led through a well-tailored sonic web, a gritty rub of fragility and vulnerability slices through the song. Mostly an electronic-led single, Brewer immerses listeners in a twinkling rush of kaleidoscopic sound; however, it is the fluttering classic rock guitar that adds an eclectic edge to ‘Revelations’. One might consider a cosmic dark-wave soundscape to clash with classic rock, but Brewer makes it work.

Brimming with psychedelic and soul-stirring fancies, ‘Revelations’ is a blissful ride through a velvety star-studded sky. Interestingly, while the melody is ethereal, the theme of ‘Revelations’ adds a profound lilt to the tune. Brewer explains:

This song is about an omnipotent being that has created countless galaxies and planets it…it doesn’t get a chance to check in on all of them very often. The being stumbles across a long-forgotten creation and is horrified at what it sees and how its creation has been destroyed by greed, corruption and cult-like followings built up around the being’s existence where atrocities were carried out in its name.”
