The Mars McClanes – Be Still (2023)

Described by notable publications as “a powerhouse ride for the listeners” (Red Rock Magazine), delighting people with “…their lunacy and exciting rhythms…” (Less Than 1000 Followers), and letting listeners “feel the magnificence and heart pulsating in your ears…” (Roadie Music), duo The Mars McClanes effortlessly stand out in a crowd. Along with these blogs, The Mars McClanes are reaching far beyond their US borders with coverage on numerous playlists, radio stations and international press. The latest addition to their critically acclaimed discography is the single ‘Be Still’.

The first release in 2023, The Mars McClanes begin the new year with a ferocious bang. In ‘Be Still’, the pair not only engage your ears in an intriguing new way but add a sense of profoundness and thought-provoking introspection to the track. Unlike their previous track ‘Wild & Green’, ‘Be Still’ moves away from alternative rock tones incorporating slivers of indie-folk in the melody. What I find particularly exciting is how the song has an acoustic flair with organic instrumentation; however, synthetic elements are included bringing an electronic edge to ‘Be Still’. It is as if the band is looking for the delicate line between organic and synthetic…and they find it!

Just as the melody is cinematic and haunting with a sprinkle of vulnerability, the lyricism is as haunting. The band explains that ‘Be Still’ is an emotive song looking at “…the struggles of finding inner peace within a fast-paced world”. Dreamy and charming, you can easily become lost in the hazy ambience; however, desperation also exists exploring human fragility within a soul-stirring track.

Based on previous material, it’s safe to say I am already a fan of The Mars McClanes. In ‘Be Still’ the pair showcase their versatility proving they are innovative, eclectic and masterful at making music.
