The Lunar Keys – Stop This (2021)

With their single ‘Silent Ricochet’, The Lunar Keys were able to capture the contrasts that clash and even each other out in the world. Now, the band is taking a trip to the darker side of human emotions with ‘Stop This’. Through their catchy and borderline anthemic sound, they consider the dark reality that we are not always in the driving seat when it comes to our emotions and thoughts.

While delving into the shadowy world of emotion, the band offers a connection to those who are affected. This is bundled into a call to arms to confront the issues and problems in our lives. The single continues to bring the touch of hope to the darkness that the band is so great at encapsulating.

‘Stop This’ slowly draws you in with the irresistible thrum of the bass. The melody has a very light touch to it that drifts gently across your senses. The softness of the opening verse perfectly flows into the really catchy chorus. The higher tones that make an appearance from the second verse bring texture and contrast to the soundscape. There is something woven into the melody that is utterly catchy and will have you bopping around to the sound. Later in the track, there is an instrumental bridge that lets you go a bit crazy.

The vocals are as soft as the melody while bringing the darker edge of the track through the lyrics. This creates a wonderful interplay between good vibes and the unease generated by the lyrics. The lyrics dive into emotions that seem to blindside us and pleas for a way to stop them. This is done on the really amazing chorus that makes you sing along before you realise what you are doing. The pleading catchiness of the chorus acts as the call to action while offering the understanding that you are not alone in what you are feeling.

The Lunar Keys have you singing along while taking a trip into the darker side of human emotions with the endlessly catchy ‘Stop This’. With a soft and easy melody, the band pulls you into the soundscape before letting loose on the instrumental bridge. The vocals are equally gentle as they bring the darkness to life before pleading in the catchiest chorus ever.
