The Lighthouse – One More Bottle (Through Your Window) (2021)
With the second single off their upcoming EP, The Lighthouse wonderfully continues their ethos of making ‘songs that feel like Fridays’. While keeping in this line, ‘One More Bottle (through your window)’ takes a slightly different approach with a more downtempo and emotional flow. As the single takes a new sonic direction, the band considers not being able to let go of a past relationship.
While the band offers something a little different with this track, they continue to fill the soundscape with their energy and unique edge. Drawing on a range of influences, they pluck the best elements from them and craft the sounds into their own style. As the second lead-up track to their EP, it will get you excited to see what else the band can throw at us.
‘One More Bottle (through your window)’ has a soft opening that draws you into the single. There is a rain-drenched feeling to the melody that brings the image of rain running down the window to mind. There is a rather interesting movement to the melody as the beats pop and bubble through the soundscape. As the chorus hits, the music drops for a very tender and delicate movement. It is a deeply touching melody that reaches into your chest and tugs at your heartstrings. While different to the upbeat vibes the band usually fills our ears with, there is a poignancy to the track that you can’t deny. As the single progresses, there is a burst of sound that bangs into your chest.
There is an electronic edge to the vocals that open the track only for this to drop for a really smooth melodic flow. While the music brings the sombre feeling of the track, the vocals offer some direction and the reasoning behind it. Adding to the emotive power of the music, the vocals fill you with a relatable sense of loss that hits you throughout the day as you do the most mundane things. The vocals are really emotive and you can feel the pain woven into each word as they squeeze your heart.
The Lighthouse fills your chest with longing and pain as they tug at your emotions with the beautifully powerful ‘One More Bottle (through your window)’. The melody invokes images of rain-drenched streets that perfectly captures the sadder emotions of the track. This is further enhanced by the vocals that tug at your heart and fill you with the pain of loss.
