The Infinity Process – Hostage (2025)

Formed just over 10 years ago through online dating, a few cups of coffee, and a talented cousin, The Infinity Process boisterously explores reality with a hard-hitting brush of rock. Combining the musical stylings of Kimberly Tingley (vocals), Jason Tingley (guitar and bass), and Brent Gfell (drums), we travel on a rollercoaster of System of a Down, Thrice, Muse and Helmet – although not necessarily a true comparison as The Infinity Process have a mind of their own. We came across the group last year with ‘Glitches’, and today we explore their latest release, ‘Hostage’.

Following the well-received singles ‘Glitches’ and ‘Embrace The Storm’, ‘Hostage’ retains The Infinity Process’ hard-hitting, powerful, rambunctious and ensnaring rush of hard rock with melodic metal clinging to the track’s edges. Recorded, mixed and produced by Jason Tingley at The Chinchilla Lair with mastering by Nick Burchall at Audio Animals, ‘Hostage’ is a concoction of crashing drums, soaring guitars, and bold bass. Elegantly woven in a mature production, Tingley and Burchall sprinkle their magic fairy dust across the moving melody; however, just as the fairy dust settles the track, the blistering instrumentation and Kimberly Tingley’s rich vocals ooze a sense of vulnerability and raw grit in the sophisticated bundle.

As much as ‘Hostage’ brims with that boisterous ferocity and angst evident in many hard rock tunes, there is a soothing element offering some sense of calm in the melody. Interestingly, the rollercoaster of madness and gentle harmony perfectly aligns with the spit of angsty social commentary bound in poetic lyricism. The band explain:

“This song is our complete rejection of the current human experience. It’s influenced by being so disgusted over the past year or so every time we turned on the TV during an intense political cycle of being constantly bombarded with nothing but political ads, divisive bickering, finger-pointing, extreme tribalism, and just a general overwhelming outlook of doom and gloom. This song starts in a helpless state… but as the song goes on, it becomes more of a middle finger to all of that and a call to be part of the answer, not part of the problem…”

A slap across your face curbed by a soft caress from a dear friend, ‘Hostage’ is the theme song for uncomfortable, uncertain times.
