Track of the Day: The Infinite Daisy Chains – Hope You Grow

Inspired by artists like Warpaint, Slowdive, Portishead and Sade, US-based The Infinite Daisy Chains combines intriguing electropop with smooth dream-pop sounds in a unique way. Described as having a “…seemingly infinite sonic palette”, duo Ian Dandridge and Kristina Westernik-Dandridge aim to spread messages of hope and love with kaleidoscopic tunes. While this is one of the first times, I have heard of The Infinite Daisy Chains, both artists have several years of experience as individual musicians with Westernik-Dandridge specialising in the violin. One of the more recent releases to their spectacular discography is the single ‘Hope You Grow’.

Taken off their latest EP Between You and Me, ‘Hope You Grow’ is an intimate layer of sound within a cinematic soundscape. Elegantly combining various instrumentation, the single has an interesting arrangement filled with evocative and harmonic textures. What I find particularly intriguing about ‘Hope You Grow’ is the light-heartedness of the haunting melodies, yet there is a hard-hitting poignancy woven through like a silver thread in a dark tapestry.

As can be heard, the single’s melody is moving and powerful; however, The Infinite Daisy Chains show their depth goes beyond melodies with enchanting lyricism. The duo shares that ‘Hope You Grow’ touches on “…the idea of love/hate relationships; the idea that creating music can be love but also getting to the finish line can be a difficult journey.” Truth be told, making it through ‘Hope You Grow’ can leave you breathless with a nostalgic, insightful reflection. Of course, the interpretation of this provocative tune is subjective, so we are all pushed into a swirl of sound, but the meaning is personal. For me, ‘Hope You Grow’ walks the line between innocence and deep sentimentality making it beautiful with some enjoyable obscurity.
