The Harbours – So Sweet (2024)
Technically formed in 2020 by university friends Ollie Drakard and Will Massarella-Tyler, although they didn’t know it at the time, The Harbours is a UK-based duo known for engaging melodies, moving lyricism and an all-around infectiously energetic stage presence. During their time at university, a band was formed with music-loving friends, but earlier this year Drakard (lead vocals, backing guitar, keys and bass) and Massarella-Tyler (lead guitar, drums, bass and backing vocals) officially began performing as The Harbours. Astoundingly sensational, or is that sensationally astounding, the pair quickly turned heads with Manchester City FC deeming their debut single ‘Out Of Sight’ “a banger”. Understandably that comment had The Harbours go viral on social media, but their pure energy and raw talent have the pair reaching audiences far beyond their UK borders.
Following the critically acclaimed single ‘Out Of Sight’, The Harbours release their sophomore single ‘So Sweet’. Self-produced with mixing by Ed Ripley and mastering by Rare Tone Mastering, ‘So Sweet’ is a breath of life for 90s indie-pop crafted for contemporary audiences. While the track itself has a soothing overtone holding you in a warm embrace, the arrangement is a bit tumultuous. Crashing drums match a bold bass, searing guitar solos, a shimmering keyboard and a hit of saxophone peeking in the background.
Tumultuous – the word always implies something tragic or despairing; in ‘So Sweet’ it’s none of the sort. Tumultuous in its bouncy rambunctiousness, ‘So Sweet’ is a rousing tune filled with a joyful celebration of life. The simplistic vocals are rich and full-bodied but somehow slip between the melody with a secret grin. Not a particularly profound piece, ‘So Sweet’ is “a catchy, upbeat track that captures the essence of youthful romance and carefree summer days…” Sometimes, we just need a happy song to make the day better and The Harbours have created that tune in ‘So Sweet’.
In addition to the single, The Harbours released an official music video for ‘So Sweet’. You can view the video below or on their YouTube channel.
