The Forever Now ft Trine Lyngvig – Lover’s City (2022)

There are times when you have to part ways with someone and can’t help but feel that this parting is happening too soon. This feeling has been taken by The Forever Now and crafted into the heart of their single ‘Lover’s City’. Telling a story of loss and longing, he is joined by Danish singer-songwriter, Trine Lyngvig, to bring the harmonic pain to life.

While the single was originally written years ago, the power of the emotions woven into it is still as poignant as ever. Having come a long way since he started his musical journey, The Forever Now brings an almost serendipitous feeling to the single that is rather easy to connect with. Blending cinematic elements with indie rock and synth-pop, he blurs genres as he brings his musical tales to life.

‘Lover’s City’ uses an interesting opening of swirling electronic tones to get your attention, before the light touch of twinkling tones pulls you further into the melody. It is a rather dreamy melody that brings a misty vibe to the single as it hazes over the vocals. The dreaminess of the music carries a rather bittersweet feeling that settles on your soul like drizzle on a cloudy day. As the melody progresses, the dreaminess lifts slightly for a richer sound that touches on the orchestral. There is a choral edge to the music at times as the instrumentation sweeps out the floor beneath you. In the late moments of the single, the feeling of fading away that has been injected into the track through the vocals reaches a climax. There is a swell of strings and guitars that cover the vocals as they move into the distance and out of sight.

As the dreamy movement of the melody picks you up, The Forever Now’s vocals mist into life. There is a feeling of the intangible to his performance, making you feel like it would run through your fingers if you reach for it. His performance entwines with Lyngvig for a powerful movement that is really touching. Together, their tender vocals reach into your chest and squeeze your heart, while creating a brimming well of emotion in your throat. They have perfectly captured the pain of a connection that is over too soon. Woven into this is the feeling that the other person will forget about you. This comes across beautifully in the chorus that takes the emotive power of the single to another level. In the last moments of the single, The Forever Now’s vocals make a final plea before the melody overtakes him and he fades away.

The Forever Now teams up with Trine Lyngvig to reach into your chest, squeeze your heart and fill you with sadness as they tap into longing, pain and the fear of fading from someone’s memory in ‘Lover’s City’. The single is unbelievably emotive and you will feel a well of sadness resting in your chest by the end. Both the vocals and melody have a dreaminess that adds to the melancholy as they mourn a lost connection and pleads to not be forgotten.
