The Daytime High – Pandemonium (2023)

Inspired by the likes of the Kinks, The Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, and Primal Scream, The Daytime High has a melting pot on which to build their own sound, and they come out with something truly unique. Bringing a fresh look to genres like classic rock, alternative and pop, there is something nostalgic and genre-defying about the US-based trio. Already hitting our virtual pages with their single ‘Waterfall’, we have had a taste of emerging band The Daytime High; however, we are not the only ones singing their praises. Despite only forming in mid-2022, the lads have already appeared in Rock Era Magazine, TJPL News, Thoughts Words Actions and Senocular Media – to name but a few. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Pandemonium’.

Following their well-received single ‘Waterfall’, The Daytime High infuse elements of folk-rock and power-pop into an indie-rock sonic wrapper. Leaning towards the sounds of the 90s, there is a slight reminiscence of Foo Fighters; however, a strong comparison can be made to The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. Rolling behind the rock tone, a bubbly pop sound lingers bringing listeners an edgy blend of pounding drums, dynamic guitars and light percussion.

One aspect I love about ‘Pandemonium’ is how the melody and arrangement have a slightly chaotic feeling or pandemonium if you will. Jovial pop sounds flow into distorted instrumentation then back again lulling you into a comfort zone within the madness. Brash and powerful, the track is a rollercoaster of sound aligning with a rollercoaster of kaleidoscopic emotion, but then it all calms down to send you floating off on a magnificent sonic river.

Just as the melody holds its own as an exciting and intricate tune, the lyricism of ‘Pandemonium’ is as profound and evocative. The Daytime High explain that “the song is about the desire for someone to come along on your chaotic ride that is life. The verse and chorus contrast the vulnerability and inner strength most of us possess and the bridge serves as the compromise needed for relationships to succeed.”
