The Alex Opal Outfit – I Don’t Mind (2022)
Along with his new seven-piece band, UK-based musician/producer is reaching out to audiences with his sensational funk. This is my introduction to The Alex Opal Outfit, but Opal has already turned heads of press across the globe including Narc Magazine, The Northern Echo, Gig Slutz and The Lowdown (to name a few). Bringing rougher Northern edges to silky smooth funk and soul, this talented musician is merging diverse elements in his intriguing sound. The latest addition to his critically acclaimed repertoire is the single ‘I Don’t Mind’.
The first release since his well-received song ‘Telling You Lies’ in 2019, ‘I Don’t Mind’ adopts an old-school funk style tinged with a modern-day soul vibe. Sending a toe-tapping tingle from the outset, ‘I Don’t Mind’ is sassy, smooth and soothing. With a warm melodic arrangement of dynamic drums, guitars and sexy saxophone, there is a tender comfort in the jovial single. Add the vocals of talented singer Matti and you have a grin-inducing, soul-soaring single wrapped in a kaleidoscopic wrapper.
Opal shares that his quest is to continue bringing new life to the modern-day soul genre which “…has always given a voice to a dissatisfied majority” – ‘I Don’t Mind’ is evident of this ambition. With his intoxicating music, The Alex Opal Outfit is certainly capturing the frustration of the masses and airing it with flair. Opal explains that ‘I Don’t Mind’ “…explores the escapist abandon we are all driven to seek on a drunk fuelled night out…hitting the town and having a wild night…”
