The 295 – Lonely Without You (2023)

Hitting the UK music scene in 2019, The 295 set a precedent for infectious, intoxicating rock bands across the UK. The London-based foursome has been “blazing a trail” for the past four years rocking notable venues like The Troubadour, The Hope and Anchor, The Fiddlers Elbow, The Camden Assembly and Nambucca. Not only are they garnering a following with their energetic live shows, but The 295 are also reaching international audiences with coverage from York Calling and JPGChief playlists. The latest addition to their repertoire is the single ‘Lonely Without You’.

In an interview with The Other Side Reviews (that’s us!), Howard Gray (lead vocals, guitar and bass guitar) shared that their music aims to connect with people in a laidback, chilled out and relaxing way – “just to have fun listening to it as we always have a laugh creating it…” Following their single ‘Talked Out’ and well-received five-track EP, HAVE YOU HEARD?, ‘Lonely Without You’ is a testament to this heartfelt aim.

The first release from The 295 in 2023, ‘Lonely Without You’ is a high-powered combination of pounding drums and powerful guitars with an underlying hint of keys bringing up the rear. Interestingly enough, while the single was recorded in a studio, there is a strong live band quality to ‘Lonely Without You’ capturing the energy of the band’s live performances.

While the melody can hold its own as an anthemic tune for the masses, it is Gray’s vocals that add an edgy indie-rock style to ‘Lonely Without You’. Rich and smooth, it flows harmonically with the sophisticated arrangement. Yet, a raw gruffness exists in his voice adding a gritty innocence to the heart-pumping single. Mellifluous but brash, soft but bold, smooth but with a ragged edge, The 295 evokes all emotions in the single ‘Lonely Without You’.
