thankmelater. – shutmedown (2023)

From IGGY Magazine to Roadie Music, Rising Artists Blog, Illustrate Magazine and Music For All, up-and-coming duo thankmelater. is reaching audiences far beyond their North American borders. The brainchild of long-time friends Eric Vattima (vocals) and Jacob Redding (guitarist and producer), this US-based pair brings a blend of punk, indie and alternative rock influences to their intriguing sound. This may be a new band, but Vattima and Redding are no strangers to the music industry. Before forming thankmelater. the lads performed in bands and pursued solo projects – then they decided to create something unique as a pair: thankmelater.

Their debut single, and one of the many singles to be released as part of their upcoming debut EP, ‘shutmedown’ finds the balance between grunge and alternative rock. A melding of Nirvana and Three Days Grace, with a tinge of Creed in the mix, ‘shutmedown’ leans towards the sounds of the 90s. Yet, while this nostalgic flair lingers through the melody, a contemporary rock blast flows through in the tune.

While ‘shutmedown’ establishes thankmelater. as an alternative rock band with bold drums, guitars and gruff vocals, a slither of punk emerges giving the song an edginess. It is as if you start out with a smooth sense of grunge and rock, but once you start flowing on this dark sonic river hyped-up waves wash over in a thrashing of hard-hitting vocals and pounding instrumentation….and it ends with this blunt bite.

Showcasing versatility, it is intriguing to see where thankmelater. goes from here. Are they heading toward a rock-inspired sound or is there a bolder punk tone to punch you in the guts? Only time will tell.

“This song was therapeutic to record, because it was the first song that helped us truly get a gauge for how we want the band to sound, and it’s amazing to see it out and people listening to the work! We truly think this is the start of something great…” – Eric Vattima on ‘shutmedown’
