TerraTara – A Love, Tantalize (2022)

Being separated from a loved one can be hard as your soul constantly reaches out for a love that is just too far away. The longing that this separation brings has been picked up by TerraTara and turned into her passionate single ‘A Love, Tantalize’. Packed with a yearning for someone who is far away, the single considers the obstacles, promises and uncertainty that fill your life as you try to reach the impossible.

Dangling the carrot of hope before you, the single uses upfront vocals with a reggae bass to cry for a lover who is far away. While there is a heavy dose of yearning to the single, the catchy chorus and fun percussion adds a unique flavour to the track. Joining TerraTara to bring this song to life are Neil Symonette (drums) and Jermaine Johnson (electric bass).

The reggae touch of ‘A Love, Tantalize’ hits through the opening with a light twang. There is a swaying feeling to the plucked notes of the opening that make you think of the sun hovering just over the horizon of the ocean. While this would often fill you with good vibes, the lower level of the melody brings a touch of sadness and yearning. These feelings only grow as the single continues with the crash of the drums mimicking the ocean that parts you and the person you love. It is a really interesting melody that is part chilled and part yearning. You can feel the touch of hope and optimism that comes from the promises of meeting again only for this to turn sour as you consider whether this will ever actually happen. The melody is a little subdued at times to allow the vocals to really shine and drive the narrative of the single.

As you sink into the emotions of the melody, TerraTara’s vocals rise like the rays of the sun. There is a folky vibe to her performance that carries this wonderful acoustic vibe. The earthiness of her performance enhances the emotions of the track. She has an amazing ability to fill your senses with the longing of the single as if you are in the exact situation that caused the single. Through the lyrics, she considers the promises being made, some of which are unrealistic, and the obstacles the couple faces. This all slides into a deep longing as the chorus questions when they will be able to meet again. The rather mellow vibes of the single hide the magnitude of emotion that is resting just below the surface.

Merging mellow folk with smooth reggae tones, TerraTara fills you with longing, hope and uncertainty as she reaches for a distant love in ‘A Love, Tantalize’. The melody brings the first touches of yearning and sadness to the single while mimicking the movement of the ocean that is keeping the lovers apart. TerraTara’s vocals have a mellow vibe, but this doesn’t stop the power of their emotive tugs as she takes us through a spectrum of emotion.
