Tehillah – Be Confident (2023)
A devotee of old-school club classics, singer-songwriter Tehillah takes a stroll back to the 80s, 90s and 00s in her musical style. Inspired by iconic black females such as Whitney Houston, Mary Mary and Destiny’s Child, she is passionate about making toe-tapping songs but with a profoundness in the poetic lyricism- Winner of the Future Youth Records’ 2021 ‘Think Women’ songwriter contest, UK-based Tehillah is recognised as an inspirational musician with a natural musical talent. The latest addition to her well-received discography is her four-track EP, Be Confident.
The first release in two years, Be Confident follows her 2021 singles ‘Empty’ and the award-winning ‘We’re Beautiful’. As with previous material, Be Confident has a vintage commercial pop sound throughout the tracks easily placed on dance floors of the 90s. Interestingly enough, while each song retains the toe-tapping, body-moving sonic swirl, a difference appears in each track. For instance, the opening title track is an upbeat single but with a far more dance-inspired beat design than ‘Right Track’. Simultaneously, ‘All Up In Smoke’ is steadier with a sensuality flowing across the soothing melody than ‘Lost In This Ocean’.
Embracing her inner Aliyah and Destiny’s Child, there is a boldness in her tracks with an empowering charm to the EP. Yet, while reminiscence can be heard to iconic females of yesteryear, there is an originality and authenticity to Tehillah’s music adding a contemporary edge to the retro vibes.
In addition to the EP, Tehillah is releasing an official music video for ‘Be Confident’ on March 8th to celebrate International Women’s Day.
