Teddy Clarke – Blue Tablet (2024)

Over the past few years, singer-songwriter Teddy Clarke has graced our ears with his astounding music. From 2021’s ‘The World In Which They Play’ to 2023’s ‘False Prophets’, Clarke has consistently wriggled into our heads, knocked about our brains, and hit us with his infectious melodies (some settling for days or weeks to come). Known for his enthusiastic performances, engaging songs and poetic lyricism, Clarke offers authenticity, originality and raw talent in his music.

An eclectic sonic palette for sure, one can never quite be sure which way Clarke’s musical stylings will take you. From the alternative pop ‘False Prophets’ to the post-punk ‘Poor Man’s Son’ and indie-rock ‘Bleak’, the UK-based artist reaches beyond the rock-tinged genre oozing with unconventionalism. Following his well-received singles ‘Rethink’ and ‘Thrill’, Clarke presents the latest addition to his discography, ‘Blue Tablet’.

Produced with long-time collaborators Joel and Ben Bogen (also known as Analog & Digital), ‘Blue Tablet’ is a bold fusion of alternative rock with flecks of indie-rock running throughout the melody. While the track is a dramatic rush of guitars, bass and synth-driven keyboards, simplicity exists in its obscure arrangement. A rollercoaster ride with soaring guitars and pulsating drums carrying you along; however, this complexity is met by an oddly stark, barebones sound enhanced by Clarke’s vulnerable vocals.

Just as the melody is intriguing with the intricate melding of starkness and kaleidoscopic qualities, Clarke’s lyricism is as profound. Adding weightiness to ‘Blue Tablet’, Clarke resonates with audiences by discussing the theme of unrequited love from a separate perspective. He explains:

“I wrote this song quite a few years ago when a friend was telling me about not feeling enough for the person they were dating as they were more interested in getting high than spending time with them. I’ve always found writing from other people’s perspectives so from that conversation ‘Blue Tablet’ was born. Over the years it’s a song I’ve constantly come back to. Me, Joel and Ben worked on this new version, and it finally felt like time to release it.”
